Pippa’s thanks to delivery teams

Pippa Heylings and Geoff Harvey at Sawston’s great chippy - after long delivery session.

The huge success of the Lib Dem party in this region would not be possible without our local teams who volunteer their time to help with Lib Dem campaigns and to get our message out to people. This is a special message to all our local delivery teams to say thank you so much again for all your help delivering our leaflets. They helped us to a huge win to get our wonderful Councillor Ros Hathorn elected to the County Council. The Lib Dems now run the council with the help of Independent and Labour councillors in a new Joint Administration.  It is important to let everyone know what the priorities are for the coming year now we are in power and leafleting plays a key part in that.

Meanwhile, Lib Dems have been in power at South Cambs District Council for over three years. This summer, we were proud to be awarded a national Public Sector Transformation award for the way we have made the Council ‘green to the core’. The big news now is that we have just published the first draft of the new Local Development Plan and we want everyone to know about it. We listened carefully to the responses we received to the first round of consultation, and we commissioned some ground-breaking studies on the water supply issues, on climate change implications and on affordability of homes. This first draft is the greenest Local Plan that the Council has ever put forward. The proposals are a serious response to protecting our climate and rural environment whilst providing the homes that are needed now and in the future. It has both environment and affordability of homes at its heart.

So, the next Focus, which will be with you soon, is about the Local Plan and the work at the County Council. It lets everyone know what we’re doing and why – and shows how we’re doing a much better job than the Tories when they were in power when there was rampant speculative development across the district and in our village and area, too. Thank you so much for all the work that you do!
